Arguably Spike Lee's finest contribution to the culture, this film was for many their first introduction to one of the most prominent figures of the civil rights movement. The film is based on the autobiography of Malcolm X, which was written by Alex Haley (who also authored Roots), and is a gripping look into the life of a man whose journey from a troubled youth to a powerful advocate for racial justice continues to inspire.
